The Board of Trustees has received retirement notice from Superintendent/CEO Donna Davidson effective June 30, 2019. Superintendent/CEO Davidson has spent the last 4 years at the helm of Mountain View School Division.
Ms. Davidson’s career spans 34 years with 32 of the years in Mountain View School Division and former Dauphin-Ochre School Area No.1. She began her career in Dauphin-Ochre, at the DRCSS, as a high school physical education teacher. Ms. Davidson took some time off to be at home with her newborn son, before joining the staff at Ochre River School as a physical education teacher, middle years English language arts and math teacher. In 1999, she was appointed principal of Ochre River School. She held that position prior to moving to the Division Office, in September of 2005, as Coordinator of K-8 Programs and Planning. In 2006, she moved into the Assistant Superintendent position, which she held until being appointed Superintendent/CEO in January 2015.
Ms. Davidson’s focus has always been on promoting success for all learners. She believes that learning and leading is dependent on relationships. She strives to foster positive relationships with staff and encourages positive student-teacher relationships. She also believes that classroom instruction is the most important school level factor in determining student success. Supporting classroom instruction through embedded professional development is important to Ms. Davidson.
During her tenure, Ms. Davidson guided positive changes in many areas. While certainly not an exhaustive list, she provided leadership in the creation of a new middle school in the community of Dauphin, implemented the Organizational Review recommendations, supported the Board of Trustees in the development of a new policy manual, aided school administration in meeting school goals, provided leadership to the Division in establishing strategic directions, and led the creation of a new Human Resources department.
Ms. Davidson has brought a tireless energy to every role she has filled in education. Her unwavering commitment to student learning and staff professional growth is personified in her work ethic, her desire to continue learning and in her leadership. Our school communities have reaped the benefits of her dedication over the years, and for that, we are truly indebted.
The Board of Trustees will commence Superintendent recruitment preparation and planning immediately with transition planning to follow.
Please join the Board of Trustees in congratulating Superintendent Davidson as she embarks on this next chapter in her life and in thanking her for her contributions to our Mountain View School Division students, schools and communities.
