Vaccination/Testing Requirement for Students Participating in Indoor Extra-Curricular Sports

Starting on December 6th, 2021, Public Health Orders will require all students aged 12 to 17 years to have at least one dose of vaccination against COVID-19 to participate in indoor extra-curricular sports (practices and games). Disclosure of vaccination status is voluntary. Students who choose not to show proof of vaccination must provide proof of a negative rapid antigen test within 72 hours of the event. Medical exemptions from the province will be recognized (see https://www.gov.mb.ca/covid19/vaccine/eligibility-criteria.html#exemptions).

Students who are 18 years of age or older must provide proof of full vaccination to participate in indoor extra-curricular sports. Students will not require proof of vaccination to participate in physical education, as this is part of the school curriculum.

Pharmacies are being enlisted to respond to this new requirement in administering rapid antigen tests for students aged 12-17 years. Families will be responsible for the costs associated with testing.

Spectators for indoor extra-curricular sports will be allowed into MVSD schools provided that there is the capacity of a supervising teacher or volunteer to check for vaccination status of all spectators aged 12 years and older. Spectators aged 12-17 years who do not show proof of vaccination must provide proof of a negative rapid antigen test within 72 hours of the event. Children who are aged 11 and younger with a vaccinated parent/guardian are fine to attend.
